Dissertation tutorial Oct..

Getting closer to the dreaded deadline of the dissertation and this being the first tutorial since returning from summer, this tutorial came at a crucial time of needing advice and opinion on work so far and for future advice.
Theo talked about the crucial point to the context page in mapping out the dissertation and my plans for its layout.

Writers Block..where to go now.
We discussed new artists and authors to research..read read read! More images and research will be the key to defining my point much further to indulge into my question further. The importance of the introduction in summarising what will follow, and then into the structure behind each chapter leading into the next, is my next point of progression. I am someone who needs a brief, structure and a focus to aim towards within my work.

Chapter 3 structure- Critical value- No aesthetic appeal, strictly a critical appreciation
– Cubism- ahead of its time, only valued since its completion.
– No commercial value originally, possibly come to appreciate through initial critical value.
Artists discussed for future inclusion were Marcel Duchap, Fountain (1917) ready made art, Clive Head; a photorealist artist who creates the hyper-realistic pieces of work whilst including multiple perspective lines that contradict each other. Showing that the eye can be deceived in that his work looks to be a as real as a photo although can never truly exist.

Final year crit/tutorials..

As the first week drawers to a close and now reflecting upon my feedback on the summer work and upcoming months projects, i feel deflated. how do i progress? what direction is my project headed toward?

Having always had a passion for studying people, drawing their imperfections or odd anomalies i knew my project would continue this way. However, i still don’t understand why, why am i intrigued with portraits and the normal people?
How do i find a link between these interests to make them a series rather than a random collection of images?
I don’t feel my initial crit has helped, i have no clearer idea of what is expected of me or of how to make my portrait interests into a project with a combining theme. Besides pointing out the errors and lack of direction within my work, my first feedback of the year involved little future guidance or progressive ideas.

Beginning the year with apprehension and confusion..not what i hoped for! i hope that with sketching and idea searching over the next week i find a more clear path and linked direction for my projects.
